2005 Annual Meeting (Friday 30 September / Saturday 1 October 2005)
The 2005 meeting was held on the morning of Saturday 1 October; we experimented with a different format, combining the Friday evening dinner of a few years back with having two "mini-lectures", the Jenkin Lecture and AGM on the Saturday morning, followed by an inexpensive buffet lunch in the new Information Engineering Building.
The dinner, on Friday 30 September, was held in Somerville.
The Saturday event started with coffee in the Thom Building, followed by a welcome from Professor Richard Darton, the Head of Department, and continued with the following lectures:
- Dr Stephen Payne : Understanding the Bends and Other Fizzy Drinks: What Deep-Sea Divers Can Learn from Bottles of Champagne
- Professor Peter Dobson : Begbroke Science Park, the University-Industry Interface
- The Eighteenth Jenkin Lecture
John Coates : Some Engineering Concepts applied to Ancient Greek Trireme Warships
The day's events concluded with a buffet lunch in the atrium of the Department's new Information Engineering Building.
