2000 Annual Meeting (Friday 22 September 2000)
Due to the modifications being made to level 1 of the Thom Building, the meeting was held in the lecture theatre of the Nuclear & Astrophysics laboratory.
The afternoon started with a welcome from Professor Rodney Eatock Taylor, the Head of Department, and continued with the following lectures:
- Dr Zhong You : Retractable Structures: from umbrella to roof
- Dr Harvey Burd : Mechanical Modelling of the Human Eye Lens
After a break for tea, the Society's AGM (including the Head of Department's annual report) was held, followed by:
- The Thirteenth Jenkin Lecture
Roger Sainsbury : The Interface between Civil Engineering and Business
The day concluded with the annual SOUE dinner, which was held in Mansfield College.
