The Jenkin Lecture
Date: Saturday, 15th September 2007
Speaker: The Honourable Mr Justice Ramsey on Law and Engineering:
resolution of technology disputes. Formerly an engineer and subsequently
a barrister in construction law, he will explore the involvement of
engineers in dispute resolution processes.
Guest of honour: Patron of Centenary, Lord Jenkin of Roding, the
grandson of Frewen Jenkin who was elected first Professor of Engineering
Science in 1908
Lord Jenkin will give a guest introduction at 1.45pm. The Honourable Mr Justice Ramsey’s lecture will begin at 2.00pm in Lecture Rooms 1 and 2, Thom building
Lecture: Keep it cool! 38 years of gas-turbine
research

Speaker: Professor Martin Oldfield
Unusual short-duration wind-tunnels have been used to research, in a split
second, results that normally need expensive hours. The work of one of
the most successful thermo-fluid laboratories over the years is
illustrated in this lecture.
This lecture will take place from 10.30 to 11.30am in Lecture Room 1, Thom building

Conference for Young Coastal Scientists and
Engineers

This conference will be held in Lecture Room 2, Thom building
Seminar on "Educating Engineers"
Objective: to debate some of the key issues in engineering
education. These include: are we educating engineers for a sustainable
future?; why are there so few women engineers; why are so few engineers
key decision makers in society?; does the UK need more engineers?
