Richard Darton FREng, OBE
SOUE News congratulates Richard Darton on the award of OBE, for
"services to engineering", in the June Birthday Honours. Richard's
earlier career had been with Shell, mainly in the Netherlands. When the
Department was planning courses in chemical engineering, on the initiative
particularly of the late Peter Whalley, Shell seconded him to Oxford to help
with this, in 1991. He later became a full member of the academic staff,
eventually Professor, and was Head of Department from 2004 to 2009. In 2008-9
he was President of the Institution of Chemical Engineers, and is currently
President of the European Federation of Chemical Engineers.
